hair irony

Wouldn’t you know it? I’m fixed to get my hair cut and dyed and streaked this very weekend (by Amy, the super woman with the fairytale looks who delivers babies and cuts the hair of almost everyone I know), and now, for the first time in months, I’m wearing my hair down and it looks GOOD. Well maybe not good, but normal, like the kind of hair you’d see on a real person, living in this century.

Usually my hair mushrooms up or whips itself into these peaks and curves that make it look like I’m dressing up as “antigravity” for Halloween, and I have to tape and clip and paste the whole thing up into that “wacky lady with hair piled atop head” look usually seen on women wearing whimsical pins on their lapels and driving vintage cars (typically 1969 Bugs, but sometimes CORTINAS). Why must it always happen this way? “Irony abhors a vacuum,” and all that, I guess.
